DUONG CHALLENGES NGUYEN TO THREE DEBATES

“San José District 7 Residents need to know that we have clear differences in how our city and district should be managed.”

San José, CA, 9/3/10 – After a formal challenge to three San José City Council District 7 debates, candidate Madison Nguyen has refused to talk with the voters of the district. At a candidates’ forum hosted by the Downtown Association on August 13, candidate Minh Duong handed Nguyen a challenge letter.

City Council District 7 runoff candidate, Minh Duong, challenged opponent, Madison Nguyen, to three(3) debates throughout the campaign in an effort to share with the voters the issues and differences on how to solve them in the district and throughout the city.

The Duong Campaign proposes hosting three community specific debates: one focused to the General community, one focused to the Vietnamese community, and one focused to the Hispanic community. Duong believes this will help address all the issues facing District 7, as well as answering general city questions from the voters.

Says Duong, “I believe that the voters of District 7 need to hear why I am the best choice to help manage our city budget. As a small business owner, I know very well how to remain fiscally responsible and get our city out of a growing 118 million dollar deficit. This is unacceptable.”

San José, CA, 9/2/10 – After an incident involving assault and verbal attacks by a volunteer representing the Madison Nguyen city council campaign, a formal complaint has been filed with the San José Police Department (240 PC Assault and Battery).

On Thursday, August 26, in the early afternoon, two volunteers for the Minh Duong Campaign were accosted and verbally attacked by a volunteer from the Madison Nguyen Campaign, identified as Robert Sandoval (photo ID). The reference of the attack was about campaign signs and the Nguyen volunteer physically pushed and verbally assaulted the Duong volunteer. It was reported that the Madison Nguyen attacker threatened the Duong volunteer to stay away from the neighborhood or else more severe physical harm will occur the next time he is seen in the neighborhood. As Sandoval left the scene, the Duong volunteer wrote down the license number of the vehicle.

Immediately following the incident, the Duong volunteers called and reported the incident to the candidate, Minh Duong. They drove to the SJPD office and filed an incident report (Case #10-XXX-XX19 – full case number available upon request).

“It is so sad that we cannot feel safe from my opponent’s volunteers as my volunteers share my message to the voters. This type of assault is wrong and I intend to follow through to the fullest extent of the law against these types of illegal actions. I run a very clean and fair campaign – I would hope my opponent would do the same,” says candidate Minh Duong.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Former Milpitas Mayor Henry Manayan Endorses Minh Duong for San Jose City
Council-Manayan Calls Minh Duong "Best Candidate for District 7"

for immediate release
June 30, 2010

San Jose - Former Milpitas Mayor Henry Manayan has endorsed Minh Duong for San Jose City Council seat in District 7. Manayan, who served as Mayor of Milpitas from 1996 to 2002, and completed the new Milpitas City Hall, was instrumental in bringing Light Rail to Milpitas, and helped build the Highway 880 /237 interchange, commented, "Minh Duong’s experience as a successful small business owner along with his service as a Commissioner on the San Jose Small Business Development Commission makes him the ideal candidate to promote economic opportunity, job growth, and bring business- friendly policies to the San Jose City Council.” Mayor Manayan added, “As neighbors, Milpitas and San Jose need to work closely together during this economic downturn to develop strategies that will reinvigorate our region in Silicon Valley, and bring back financial prosperity."

"Minh Duong is not the Vietnamese candidate for City Council," Manayan stated. "He is the best qualified candidate who happens to be Vietnamese. With the current state of affairs, and the overwhelming majority of voters being unhappy with the status quo, Minh Duong is the candidate best able to unify District 7."

Minh Duong is coming off a very strong showing in the June Primary election where over 59% of District 7 voted against the incumbent. Duong has been endorsed by Rudy Rodriquez who finished fourth in the June primary with over 14% of the vote. Duong’s candidacy has also been endorsed by the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce.

San Jose City Council Candidate Minh Duong Supports Reed’s Budget Proposals
Challenges Incumbent to Stand Up To Unions and Save City Services

for immediate release
June 15, 2010

San Jose-Minh Duong, candidate for San Jose City Council District 7 announces his support for Mayor Chuck Reed’s program for fiscal reform and challenges Incumbent Nguyen to stand up to public employee union bosses and save City services.

"It is time for the City Council to support Mayor Reed’s platform for fiscal reform and save City services. For too long the residents of District 7 and San Jose have watched library services reduced, community center hours cut, and other necessary services eliminated or dramatically reduced. It’s time for a change," Duong stated.

Duong further commented, "I greatly appreciate the support of the voters in District 7 and look forward to the general election in November. It’s now time for the incumbent to decide if she puts her constituents first, the residents of District 7, or will she bow to the pressure of the unions. While we must work collaboratively with labor unions and management, my constituents, the residents of District 7, come first. In order for San Jose to become a great city we must eliminate our structural budget deficit. I support Mayor Reed’s fiscal reform efforts and will continue to advocate for fiscal reform and economic development when I am elected to the City Council."

Minh Duong will face the incumbent Nguyen in the general election in November. He currently serves as a San Jose Commissioner on the Small Business Development Commission. He is a successful small business owner and is a graduate from UC-Berkeley with a degree in Economics.
